Acrylic Lecterns - Page 2
Continued from page 1...
Double wide acrylic podiums are another variety, and are particularly suited for presentations of more than one speaker, or if the speaker in question has a predilection for vast quantities of materials and notes. Most double wide acrylic podiums are simply an elongated ‘CV’ style. The ‘CV’ style of acrylic podium is really a simple three sided, half-hexagonal pillar connecting base to platform. Aside from the double wide and standard ‘CV’ style of acrylic podium, there are so-called ‘large-top’ acrylic podiums that provide more note space for the single speaker without the bulk of a double wide.

A ‘Z’ style acrylic podium, as the name implies, is constructed in a z shape. This design has the advantage of being less cumbersome than most other models. However, ‘Z’ style acrylic podiums provide, in general, significantly less surface area for the speaker although in some cases this is not a problem. Indeed, despite the smaller surface area, the ‘Z’ style acrylic podium is ideally suited for pastors who generally only need their acrylic podium for liturgy, i.e. as a pulpit.

Bested in elegance only by the aluminum-acrylic podium, the ‘M’ style utilizes three parallel and bow-tie shaped panels to connect base with platform. The look is somewhat more refined than the ‘CV’ or ‘Z’ style acrylic podiums. As far as acrylic podiums go the ‘M’ design is both understated and thoughtful.

An ‘official’ image, such as that you might imagine a government using, is very much the motif of the traditional style acrylic podium. It projects a confident and authoritative voice across great space. It is also more functional. One can set a cup of water (or whatever) on the shelf beneath the platform and then place a seal or brand image over the shelf-space so that nobody is distracted by the cup of water (or whatever is sitting there) as you talk. Indeed, if anything they’ll be looking at the logo or seal.

There is of course the common possibility that a facility does not need an entire podium. In a classroom, a small conference space, or short-notice presentation, i.e. situations where tables are plenty and space is not, any acrylic tabletop podium may be employed. A ‘CV’ style with no base and short enough to set on a table, the tabletop acrylic podium is an often used and efficient solution.

This was just a summary of common styles and types of acrylic podiums as well as the uses to which the various styles are commonly put. It is of course possible to custom design an acrylic podium or to look around and see the rich variety of shapes and styles available from the multitude of providers of acrylic podiums. In other words, the summary here can by no means claim an exhaustive or all-inclusive status. In addition to the more ubiquitous styles, acrylic podiums could also come triangular, cylindrical, or asymmetric depending on the budget and the myriad of publicity and design concerns.
