Multimedia Lecterns - Page 2

Continued from page 1...

A multimedia lectern can have several different elements, depending on what your needs are. The tops of many multimedia lecterns look a bit different than traditional lecterns. In a traditional lectern, the top is sloped toward the presenter so that it is easy for him or her to read notes. Many multimedia lecterns have a flat top surface, where the presenter can place a laptop computer. The top shelf is also lower, to make it easier for the presenter to scroll through notes on his computer, open files, or click through the audio and visual parts of his or her presentation. Of course, there will be lots of cabinets and shelves in a good multimedia lectern to hold all the various multimedia components. Ideally, there will also be a place to plug in all the various computers and whatnot that go along with a multimedia lectern. In some instances, you can plug your multimedia lectern into an outlet, and then plug your equipment into the multimedia lectern, like a built in power-strip, op there is only one cord coming out from the lectern as opposed to many.

A multimedia lectern can cost anywhere from a couple of hundred dollars to several thousand dollars, depending on the material, craftsmanship, and the accessories included. For a multimedia lectern that is simple, basically just a regular lectern with a couple of cubbies for your audio and visual equipment, that will be on the lower end of the price range. The more complex and sophisticated a system gets, built in power strips, lighting, etc, the price goes up. Similarly, the materials that are used can have a big impact on the price you pay for a multimedia lectern.

Since it is an investment, knowing the proper care for your multimedia lectern is important. To protect your equipment, you need to keep your multimedia lectern as clean and dust-free as possible. Other than that, you will need to treat it with the care that you would use on any other large piece of furniture, taking care not to scratch it or spill anything on it and promptly cleaning it when you do spill something on it, as the residue can seep into wood or Plexiglas and stain the material. Also you need to take extra care when you are moving your multimedia lecterns, as you can easily break or scratch your multimedia lectern. Your multimedia lectern has many more moving parts that are vulnerable to rough treatment if not handled with the proper care.
